A burned-out poet finds himself locked--at the age of thirty-one--in perpetual adolescence, even as his friends find their places in the world. Leaving his artist-in-residence position at a small Oregon college, he is confronted by an emotional train wreck as he heads for New York, and finds that he must take his first steps into his new life alone.
